Philadelphia Neighborhoods We Move

Every Philadelphia neighborhood moves a little differently. Here is how we plan moves across the city and the Main Line.

One city, many kinds of moves

A Rittenhouse high-rise, a Pennsport trinity and a Chestnut Hill stone house need three different plans.

That is why our estimates start with questions. Is there a loading dock? How wide is the stair? Can the truck park out front, or does it need a permit? Is the street one of Manayunk’s steep hills?

We have moved homes across Philadelphia since 2007. Below is a quick guide to the areas we serve and what each one usually needs. For the full list, see all LiteMovers service areas.

Where we move in Philadelphia

Center City

Rittenhouse Square, Fitler Square, Logan Square, Washington Square West, Society Hill, Old City, Chinatown

High-rises, doorman buildings and historic brick homes. Expect COIs, elevator windows and permit parking on narrow streets.

South Philadelphia

Queen Village, Bella Vista, Passyunk Square, East Passyunk, Pennsport, Point Breeze, Graduate Hospital

Tight rowhome blocks, trinity houses and steep stairs. Parking permits make a big difference here.

River Wards

Northern Liberties, Fishtown, Kensington, Port Richmond

A mix of new condos with small elevators and older rowhomes. Some blocks are busy with construction.

Fairmount and North

Fairmount, Spring Garden, Brewerytown, Francisville, Temple area

Walk-up apartments in converted homes and wide rowhomes near the Art Museum.

Northwest

Manayunk, Roxborough, East Falls, Germantown, Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill

Steep hills, stone twins and single homes with long front steps. Manayunk streets are some of the steepest in the city.

West Philadelphia

University City, Spruce Hill, Cedar Park, Powelton Village, Overbrook, Wynnefield

Student apartments, big Victorian twins and trolley lines on some streets. Late May and August are busy.

Northeast Philadelphia

Fox Chase, Mayfair, Somerton, Bustleton, Rhawnhurst, Holmesburg

Rowhomes and twins with driveways, rear alleys and full basements.

The Main Line

Bala Cynwyd, Merion, Narberth, Wynnewood, Ardmore, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Radnor, Wayne

Larger homes, antiques and long driveways. LiteMovers has served the Main Line from our home base since 2007.

Moving between the city and the suburbs

Many of our customers cross City Avenue. Young families move from Center City to Lower Merion for the schools. Empty nesters move from Radnor or Wayne to a condo near Rittenhouse.

These moves mix city rules with suburban scale. The city side may need a permit or a building COI. The suburban side may have a long driveway and three floors of furniture. We plan both ends in one estimate.

LiteMovers also serves Delaware County, Montgomery County, Chester County and Bucks County.

Neighborhood moving FAQs

Is moving in Center City different from moving in the suburbs?

Yes. Center City moves usually involve permits, loading docks, elevator bookings and a certificate of insurance for the building. Suburban moves often have more furniture, longer driveways, basements and garages. We plan crew size, truck size and timing differently for each, so ask for an estimate that looks at both addresses.

Does LiteMovers move between Philadelphia and the Main Line?

Yes. City-to-suburb moves are one of our most common jobs, especially from Center City or the Northwest to Lower Merion, Radnor and Tredyffrin. We know both sides of City Avenue. We also move people from the suburbs back into the city when they downsize.

Do you move in Northeast Philadelphia?

Yes. We move homes in Fox Chase, Mayfair, Somerton, Bustleton, Rhawnhurst and the rest of the Northeast. Many of these homes are rowhomes or twins with driveways, rear alleys and full basements. We plan the crew and the load to match.
